Inspired by Dance

Doris Hudson de Trujillo is new to the visual art scene. She was immersed in dance for the majority of her life. Originally from New Haven, Connecticut, she earned her BFA in modern dance from the University of Utah and her MA in dance from Brigham Young University.

She performed internationally as a member of the Ririe Woodbury Dance Company during the company’s most prolific NEA touring seasons from 1972 through 1976. Doris has presented choreography, research, and dance workshops throughout the United States, South Africa, Scotland, Spain and Prague Czechoslovakia. Her works were performed throughout the Intermountain region supported through the Utah Arts Council and Utah legislative regional funding program grants.

Trujillo has served as a dance consultant to the Utah State Office of Education, President of the Utah Dance Education Organization and as an artist on the Utah Arts Council, artist and education bank, Doris was a professor of Dance in the Department of Dance, at Utah Valley University, where she served as the Modern Dance Education Coordinator, Artistic Director of Contemporary Dance Ensemble and Department Chair for Dance. She and two other faculty members founded the professional dance company, “Contemporary Dance Works.”

She retired in 2020 and currently lives in Alpine Utah. She since has channeled her artistic energy into her own beautiful, dance inspired, visual art.
